The Story
Our first coffee release of the new year! And we're definitely starting off with a bang.
This exceptional coffee comes from the Buku village (kebele) in the heart of the Guji zone, Ethiopia—an area renowned for its high altitudes and rich coffee-growing heritage. Produced by smallholder farmers and processed at the Buku washing station, managed by Esayas Bareso, this coffee is cultivated at a staggering 2,350 meters above sea level—one of the highest altitudes we've encountered for coffee production.
The farmers here grow locally selected varieties 74110, 74112, and 74158, developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in the 1970s. Each cherry is meticulously handpicked and transported to the Buku station, where it undergoes rigorous handsorting before being processed. The cherries are sun-dried on raised beds, carefully turned to ensure even drying and ideal humidity levels. After drying, the coffee is hand-sorted once more, ensuring only the finest beans make it to export.
This coffee was sourced through SNAP Specialty Coffee, founded by Negusse Debela in Addis Ababa in 2008. SNAP operates three washing stations in the Gedeo zone and collaborates with additional stations in Guji and West Arsi. We are proud to have partnered with SNAP since 2022, sharing their commitment to quality and sustainability.
